Creating a Switchboard
A Switchboard is a menu screen that will allow your user to open and navigate to different parts of the database application you have created.
To create your switchboard you need to create a new Blank Form .
Make sure you open the form in Design view .
Use the Label command to add a title to your switchboard form.
Format the title so it is consistent with all the other titles in your database (on your forms and reports).
Next, you need to add command buttons to open the different forms in your database. Use the button command and click where you want to the button to go on your form.
For this tutorial, we will use the first menu button to open the customers form. In the wizard, select Form Operations and then Open Form. Click .
Select the form to open. In this case it will be the customers form. Click .
Select the option for Open the form and show all the records. Click .
Choose whether you want a picture or text to appear on the button. If you choose to have text, make sure the text is meaningful and helpful to the user. Click
Finally, give you menu button a meaningful name and click .
Move and resize your button if you need to. You can also format the text on the button using the different formatting tools.
It is sometimes useful to add an instruction next to the button. Use the Label tool to add an instruction.
Other menu buttons that are useful to add include opening a report ready to print and a quit application button.
When you save your switchboard, make sure you use the name Switchboard.
